New World New You

-> (1)

It begins with a bang; then, disorientation, darkness, dismayed voices, and spells that weigh down your limbs like heavy shackles...

The people keeping you captive seem as unsure as you are of what just happened, and argue and mutter amongst themselves, though they don't hesitate to restrain you, chain you to a pipe in the wall of this bottom floor of an underground parking garage, or lock you alone into a smaller room of the abandoned building where the summoning was held. You seem to unnerve them; they don't want to look you in the eye, and if they have to touch you to lock you up, they do so gingerly, nervously.

But maybe, once they leave you to yourself to go and argue and regroup in private, you're not quite alone? You weren't the only person to come out of the array. You have at least one companion in your confusion, one person restrained like you and not wearing the cultists' strange masks. Take comfort, take inventory, and prepare for anything.

-> (2)

The Joyous were prepared for you to attempt escape. Their preparations don't quite match what they got, but even poorly calibrated spells will do something, and the effects of knockout darts and magically reinforced walls don't discriminate. It's time to blow this popsicle stand...

...But you may want to take a moment to comb the area - once the Joyous have had enough time and reason to weigh their options, they'll run, leaving behind the incriminating results of their "botched" summoning. Those less able to escape confinement under their own power may need a hand, or to band together, or, at worst, to wait quite a while for locals to stumble across them...

-> (3)

You step outside into an unfamiliar town; small, sparse, just off a major highway running through the Neloi Flats. A perfect place for a cult looking for an unoccupied building, because there are a lot of those here, as though the town's peak has come and gone, leaving behind rusty signs for roadside attractions and a main street retinue of shops made of sheer stubbornness and spite.

There's not much direction here. There are locals, who will be confused by you, possibly wary and disbelieving. There's a temple, small like the village but likely to have charity you need right now. There's a highway, and following it in either direction will take you to one of two very different cities.

There's a whole country of possibilities before you, in fact. What ones will you chase, and will you do it alone?

They'll care later.

[There's no explanation forthcoming. He's ironically right - when they begin changing lots of people would care, but he's thinking much shorter term and the likelihood of what'll happen when his father and assorted minions arrive.

A second planet to subjugate might just mean more people to build fake-new-Vegeta.]

Then don't be that kind of god. Every species has their own gods, and every one is different. Just because another god is a destroyer doesn't mean you need to be. Better if not, then there's less competition.

[That's not quite what she meant.]

By taking the stuff they mean for their gods you're asserting your dominance over those gods. Might as well just go all out at that point.

[That's where it works where he's from. He certainly sounds sure of it.]
soft_focus: (Hair11)

yo on that note if she eventually gets a heart read; you want it to lean any particular way or?

[personal profile] soft_focus 2017-03-01 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[....Definitely not what she means. It's true that they'll probably care later. She does nod in agreement to that, at least. But she shakes her head.] ...I don't want to be a god, because I want to be something else.

I still have to find out what that is, but it's not a god. [Tough bananas kiddo you're gonna be 'a god'.] ...Gods aren't 'free'.

[She has good reasons for deciding this. Gods seem rather shakled to the people's beliefs-even Zarc, who was less 'god' and more 'angry dragon', was such. He slaved over the perceived desires of his audience. Everything was for them.

She doesn't like that idea at all. Actually-
] ...If they think that taking their stuff makes me a new god, that's their fault. [It's a very silly thing to think after all. Or at least she feels it is.]

Discord for that!

[personal profile] maximumest 2017-03-01 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[That ain't right at all.]

Your idea of godhood is very different from what I know. Some are different, but it's not ...

[How to put this in a way someone her presumable age would understand.]

It's not like being a parent or an instructor. There's no obligation to those below you. It's like being a storm, or an earthquake, or a river that can think and feel and want. You just are. And you do your thing, whatever that is.

[Real gods. The ones worth watching out for, just to avoid being in their path. He might be a legend, but he wasn't yet a god. Even he would be brought low by a true deity, and likely with NO EFFORT AT ALL.

It was an unsettling thought. He could annihilate galaxies but not a god.]

For those of us who aren't gods, or aren't yet, prayer and offerings are usually completely pointless, all you can do is keep your head down and hope they pass you by or get out of their way or hope they're the sort that is less a storm and more a summer rain.

[Broly pauses. That .. was a whole speech, and it left him tired.]

Taking their stuff doesn't automatically make you a god, but it does suggest you intend to challenge their superiority. Not a good idea.

.... [Well, she does consider what he's saying at least. After all, she has never heard of anyone define what a God is. Her experiences come from what little she hears in passing, and what she knows of Zarc. And Zarc, well...] ...That was what he did, though.

He was a big 'storm', destroying anything in his way.

[She supposes saying something like 'I stopped him' is a bad idea however, so she just focuses on him.] ...Zarc called himself a god. He destroyed the world so much that someone had to seal him away and split everything in four. [Not quite annihilation, but...well. Maybe what makes a God for that reason is more if they bother to take the name at all.] ...Sometimes not challenging someone like that can be worse though.

[She winces at a sudden shock through her head, all the same-SOMEONE didn't like her so much as thinking about that mess.]

[personal profile] maximumest 2017-03-01 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[It almost sounds right, except the wording made it sound like this particular god FAILED to destroy a world. A weak god?

Not a god at all?]

.. Well. Some gods don't want to bother with having servants or people to rule over. He might have been that sort, this .. Zarc of yours.

[He wasn't sure yet what sort of god he wanted to be. Certainly he was very good at blowing things up, but he rather liked the parts that didn't explode. If everything was destroyed, where would he sleep? What would he eat? Where would he keep his father?

Some things not being ruined was good. Maybe most things.]

Do you think the gods of these people are like that?
soft_focus: (extra 12)

[personal profile] soft_focus 2017-03-01 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
...I don't think he even thought about that. [Ow ow ow her head-] ...He just wanted a fight.

[That sounds a little familiar, actually. But, when it comes to the matter of these gods here...she looks to the temple, and back up.] ...I don't know.

Even if the people say they're supposed to be gods, I don't even know if they're 'gods'. I won't know what they're like unless I meet one either.

[From on the temple roof comes a snort of what sounds suspiciously like amusement.]

Almost like a saiyan god, then.

[But much weaker. Did gods need to train? Maybe. Broly decides this particular god might just not have had a lot of reasonable threats to practice against. With proper opponents..

... Well no, it didn't actually matter. No point dwelling on it.]

You don't want to meet a god if you're not one, or aren't very strong. Even the friendly ones are dangerous.

[And frankly by what he could sense of this girl's power level she did not even remotely qualify.]

So don't take their stuff.

[It's a roundabout moralizing, but while he's also pretty sure nobody was going to interfere if she WAS taking their stuff, there was always that tiny chance..]
soft_focus: (w. Tsukikage)

[personal profile] soft_focus 2017-03-01 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
...Saiyan? [What the heckie is a Sai- ahh, well, she frowns a bit.]

...I met Zarc.

[AND??? LIVED??? Given everything she's said so far that seems. Unlikely. At the same time-] ...I don't like talking about things I don't know-I can't talk about Zarc unless I know him.

[...She does seem the sort to carry that strange, roundabout logic.]

My kind. Like yours I suppose. But bigger and stronger. ...And you don't have a tail do you.

[He had one. Often wrapped around his waist like a fuzzy belt, or tucked out of sight under the wrap of his pants, but it was there.

Not every saiyan was powerful. But they all had tails.

That she'd survived an encounter with Zarc doesn't seem to surprise him much. She DID say he got caught and broken up, when one's caught one is usually rendered pretty helpless.

Like before with the sleep spells.]

You don't need to get bit by a targ to know that being bit would hurt do you? Knowing isn't always important.
soft_focus: (...oh .-.)

[personal profile] soft_focus 2017-03-01 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
...Nope. [No tails. If she squints, she can make out the fluffy 'belt' and take that guess though, so alright.

...
] ...Targ?

[Well, she shakes her head.] ...I just mean about the things Zarc does. If you don't know who he is, you don't know why he wants to destroy everything, right? ...Just that he does.

I know why Zarc was 'a God'. But I don't know why these ones are. I don't want to know, but it could happen...

See, you don't know what one is but you probably won't want to get bitten by one.

[He knew what they were, and although he was certain their teeth wouldn't actually get through his skin he still had no pressing desire to be bitten by one.

On the other hand he'd have dinner afterward, so there was that.]

In the case of gods of destruction, that they destroy is all anyone needs to know. Would having a reason help in any way? Knowing why a god is a god isn't important unless you intend to become one.

[....Which apparently she did in spite of saying she didn't. She needed to grow more though before she gave it a try. Maybe raise her power level.]
soft_focus: (............no? D:)

[personal profile] soft_focus 2017-03-01 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Because Zarc wasn't a 'God' first. He was a duelist.

[Because they started somewhere. That was why. And that mattered to her, honestly.] ....Knowing why someone does what they do sometimes means that you can talk to them, even if they're stronger. Or you can find a better way to fight them, even if you're weaker. That's why it's important.

[But it feels like she's getting a bit ahead of herself. She frowns, realizing this all too well.] ...No one's getting mad about the food right now though, and I'm hungry, so I'm still going to eat it.

If the gods are going to get mad then I'll tell them why I took the food later.

[But they probably don't care.]

Gods all come from somewhere.

[That doesn't bother him at all. They didn't pop out of the universe fully formed.]

When dealing with a normal opponent these things are important. But will you talk to an earthquake to try to understand it? Or ask a comet its reasons? It's a different level.

[There is a moment where he visibly reconsiders the entire conversation.

She's a kid. From what he remembered of childhood, it was being convinced he had all the answers and everyone else was clearly just wrong. He could keep trying to provide education on the matter, but really it ... didn't matter. He wouldn't be here for much longer.

There's a long stretch of silence before he simply shrugs.]

In your great age of a handful of years, you haven't seen a thing, therefore that thing isn't possible.

[Pardon him while he heaps scorn upon an inexcusably silly idea. He stands, dusting off invisible dust from his pants.]

You still think a thing has to have a brain in order to have a mind. Continuing this is pointless.

....Brains are minds? [But alright, she just shrugs and bites into the cheese, the white lump's scent carrying through the air.] ...There's a lot of things I haven't seen. They're still possible, but that doesn't mean earthquakes can think...

If you mean something else it's up to you to say something else. A brain is a mind but not all minds are brains. Many things can think that you might not expect to. Keep that in mind if you grow up.

[That's not an appetizing scent. Not even remotely. Eating cheese is not something he's done before, and it frankly smelled.. sour.

Not only was she stealing someone else's food, it's spoiled.

..
....
...It's the last straw.

While it's certain that Reira could, and possibly would, say something in response, Broly's not going to be there when she does, being able to fly has convenient parts. His tolerance for children was small enough as it was, that he's dealing with one this obtuse AND EATING ROTTING FOOD ... nope.

It's best to be somewhere else for a while. Somewhere not redolent with the smell of spoiled things.]
